With the new season and ranges almost upon us, the sales are now on everywhere. This means you can pick up last years bike models at bargain prices! So we thought it would be a good idea to get some advice from our bike buyers, Joel and Dave, about what to look out for in the sales. So if you are browsing the sales and looking for a new bike, read on!
Top ten tips for buying a bike in the sales
1. Don’t hang about – stock is limited, if you see something that you like and is right for you, get in there.
2. Prices are rising – with V.A.T, Forex, Commodity and shipping price movements, 2011 bike prices rise again this year – taking advantage of a discounted 2010 bike really makes sense.
3. Look at the specifications closely – some bikes start out overpriced. An overpriced bike with a 20% discount might not actually offer better value than a competitively priced bike with a 10% discount so don’t be fooled by the amount knocked off. That’s not to say there aren’t some bargains with big discounts – just look at more than the discount alone!
4. Some bikes only change in colour or slight specification changes – these can offer real value because they are essentially the same as their newer alternatives.
5. Many good products under-go wholesale changes because the market determines that’s what’s required – in reality, if a bike was great last summer it doesn’t suddenly become bad a few months later.
6. When considering other peoples opinions and reviews, always take into account the price the product was reviewed at, if it is now cheaper it may well have got a better review!
7. The deal might be amazing, but if the bike doesn’t fit you’re not going to enjoy riding it. Don’t force yourself onto the wrong size just to match what’s in your wallet, there are plenty of other bikes around.
8. Accessorise: Don’t blow all your budget on the bike when you can take advantage of some great offers on helmets, riding kit and a lock to keep your new steed to yourself. Riding comfortably with the right kit as important as riding the right bike. Spring is on the way (we are real optimistic around here about weather!), so pick up a jersey, jacket or shorts too! Softshells are becoming an increasingly popular choice over traditional jerseys.
9. If you have a question about a product, please ask us! You can call, email or read the product Q&A. Other customers reviews are very useful too for helping you make a decision.
10. At the end of the day, just make sure you come away with better kit and a bike that is better than your riding buddies. Part of being good is looking good! (Thanks for that one Dave!)
Happy bargain hunting!
