Summer is just around the corner, and we’re almost into peak riding season.
With months of (hopefully) sunny weekends stretched ahead of us, now is the time to start plotting in some goal rides to aim for.
Selecting a challenge ride is a great way to motivate yourself to get out there and rack up the miles, and thankfully at Evans Cycles we’ve got just the thing…
Join us for a challenge ride
We’ll be hosting RideIt! Events all spring, summer, autumn and winter long - but we’re also hosting two super special challenge rides which will test your limits, one of which will give you the chance to meet the mighty Sir Chris Hoy…
King of the Downs, Sunday 1st June, Sussex
You’ve read that date? Now put it in your diary – this is the day you’re going to ride 115miles, incorporating a leg sapping 9,000ft of climbing.
King of the Downs is the jewel in the RideIt! crown. Starting at the Evans Cycles Headquarters in Crawley, West Sussex, the route covers two loops, stretching over 10 almighty hills.
Inclines of note include Leith Hill, The Wall (Kidd’s Hill), and Titsey Hill – taking in some beautiful countryside across Surrey, Sussex and Kent along the way.
There is a 54-mile option available, and all those taking part in this super special event are treated to breakfast, a cooked meal on return, and a goody bag. These little extras are on top of the normal RideIt! offerings of free nutrition goodies, electronic timing and excellent way marking.
The HOY One Hundred, Sunday 7th September, North Yorkshire
If you want a couple of extra training months before your big event, or perhaps you want to use The King of the Downs as a warm-up – the HOY One Hundred is for you.
Covering 100-miles, this North Yorkshire route takes in a staggering 11,000ft of climbing over tough but awe inspiring landscapes. And of course, you could find yourself riding next to the tree trunk thighs of Mr Hoy himself, as he’ll be taking on the challenge himself.
Exploring Yorkshire’s remote roads, through Malham Cove, Park Rush, and Fleet Moss – the highest road in Yorkshire, this ride will take your breath away in more ways than one. There is a 50 mile route available, as well if you’re still building up your endurance.
Entry is £35, with £7 of every entry fee going to Sir Chris’ charity of choice, SAMH, Scotland’s leading mental health charity. There will be a free breakfast and post ride meal, along with way-marking, feed stations, electronic timing and mechanical support.
What are you waiting for?
If you want to motivate yourself to get out and ride more this summer, hitting ‘enter now’ on one of these rides will give you all the pedaling power you need.
Of course, riding with others is a great way to notch up the miles, and we’ve got RideIt! Events across the country which make for perfect training. Rides start from 15 miles and shoot up to 90, so you can gradually increase your mileage before the big day.
