We are just over half way through 2010 and already many BMX companies have started to release their 2011 range of complete bikes, and one of the first ranges in stock is the 2011 United’s. I went in for a closer inspection of a few bikes from this years range.

With a team of household names like Corey Martinez and Nathan Williams, United have grown into one of the strongest brands in BMX since their creation in 2006. For the 2011 range of complete bikes the guys at United pulled apart every aspect of last year’s models, to improve and change them in every single way. This can be seen from first appearances with all bikes hooked up with specific fit geometry and after market components from United, Cinema, Éclat and Duo.

Up first is the Recruit RN1. At under £300 this is the base model of the range, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that this is a low quality bike. United have thought about every aspect of this bike including the frame.

The RN1 has a 75 degree headtube and 13.65” short rear end to make it feel just like a bike worth three times the price tag. The RN1 is aimed at younger riders and United have taken this into account by giving it shorter 170mm crank arms, slightly lower 7.8” bars and a shorter 20” toptube.

As well as the well thought geometry the RN1 comes with a sealed mid bottom bracket and a 9 tooth cassette hub. The best thing about the RN1 is that it is going to ride just like a pro level bike, but it wont break the bank, this one is sure to be popular for 2011.

Up next is the Recruit RN2 which is the next bike up from the RN1. The RN2 shares all the great features of the RN1 like the new school frame geometry and the 25-9 gearing, but with a few parts upgrades.

A United pivotal seat and post take care of the seating which saves weight over the steel post and railed seat on the RN1, and a tapered Fork with a Cr-Mo steerer strengthens up the front end. The frame has been upgraded with an internal headset and a pair of after market Éclat Surge PC Pedals which is surprising to see on a bike towards the beginning of the range.

The RN2 also comes in a fantastic Matt Orange paint job based on Nathans Williams Mothership frame, which looks really dialled, just check out Dave Paterson’s Mothership bike check we ran earlier before, the same great look but now built into this great package!

This year’s Supreme SU1 2011 features a brand new frame sporting a cr-mo constructed Frame, Fork and Bar with some of the most bang up to date frame manufacturing we have seen on a complete bike; like the dent resistant oval downtube, integrated pivotal seat post, 40 frame style SS bridge, tapered stays and United’s new shape Mid BB and Integrated Headtube.

The SU1 is adorned with an array of top quality parts like Duo Stunner 2.20” tyres, Éclat Surge PC Pedals and the new United 2011 pivotal slim seat which make this bike feel solid from the get go.

The SU1 has fully sealed bearings in the hubs, bottom bracket and the headset, so you know that its going to feel smooth. Coming in either ED Black with anodized red components or a Matt Red finish, the SU1 is one of the stand outs of the 2011 range.

The pinnacle of the 2011 United range is the top end model, the Supreme SU3.

Being the top of the line bike no detail has been spared including an a full 4130 21” frame with removable brake mounts and an oval dent resistant downtube, just like you would find on Nathan Williams’ Mothership Frame. The parts on the SU3 are also second to none and feature new 48 spline sealed bearing cranks, 100% 4130 heat treated 8.25″ bars, Éclat plastic pedals and a new polished wheelset with high quality Cinema 777 rims, finished off with authentic after-market Duo Stunner 2.2” tyres.

With a final weight of 22.9lbs you would expect it to have a hefty price tag; however the SU3 comes in at under £550 which for a bike that most pros could ride straight out of the box is incredible value for money!

United have stepped it up a notch this year with their bikes, and with one of the most anticipated DVD releases happening later this month, everyone is going to be after these, so get in quick!
