This post will start on a slightly personal note because it is about my baby, the book I published about the 2011/2012 cyclocross season. Beside working on the social media side of the business, I have spent my weekends from October until February travelling to all the major cyclocross races, which meant Belgium 90% of the time.
The season started in Las Vegas in September with Crossvegas and it ended in Lille, Belgium in late February. In between I covered 34 races, not just the World Cups but the equally important GVA and Superprestige races as well. 30 000 photos later I wanted to show and share a collection of the best photos of the season to cyclocross fans and hence came the idea of the book. After countless hours of pixel-peeping and rewriting each race intros endlessly, the final product came into existence: a 220 page, hardback coffee table book that attempts to capture the best moments of the season.
To break the rhythm of the action photos, I have also done four special focus chapters to show certain behind-the-scenes aspects of the sport. Among these, you can find the chronicle of the I spent with the legendary Bart Wellens or you can find out how timekeeping works at big races.
The kind folks at Evans Cycles were kind enough to support the project and that is the reason that the book launch will be held at our West End store on Mortimer street on t29th May at 7pm. But to make things more interesting, I managed to invite a special guest, who is coming to London just for this event and he is no other than the two time cyclocross World Champion Zdenek Stybar! The event will start at 7pm and it will be hosted by the renowned cycling journalist Daniel Friebe.
After a quick introduction a few words will follow about the book and then Daniel will interview Mr Stybar, ask about his cyclocross career and his current career in road racing. You can also buy the book before and after the event and you can have that autographed by Mr Stybar!
But that’s not all! Styby asked us to provide him the opportunity to ride the Olympic course. The ride will start from Richmond Park and if you would like to ride a lap or two around the park with Zdenek Stybar, be there at car park at Roehampon Gate 10:00am – it should be fun!
So a quick recap:
10:00am – meeting at the car park near Roehampton Gate and 2 laps around Richmond park in a casual pace with Zdenek Stybar
7:00pm – Book launch event with Zdenek Stybar, moderated by Daniel Friebe
