Sunday saw the very first Evans Cycles Urban Dual where riders from 4X, DH, Dirt, XC, Enduro and BMX were pitted together as they raced to the bottom for a stake of the £2000 prize money! Held in the NCP car park on Dumfries Place in Cardiff (above the Evans Cycles store), the course used the multi-storey’s natural structure, featuring a combination of ramps, tight turns, twisting zigzags and a flight of steps.
The event proved popular, selling out with nearly 100 riders taking to the start line as they attempted to lay down the fastest possible individual qualification time. The top 16, lead by Nathon Parsons qualified for the head-to-head, fast and furious dual finals. The nail-bitting dual runs lived up to spectator expectations, and although running pretty late there were still a steely few lining the course’s hot-spots (rightfully named the ‘Hiplok-drop’ and ‘Fox head zigzag’) and finishing straight.
In the end the night belonged to Lewis Lacey, with Nathon Parsons taking 2nd and Alex Metchalf 3rd overall, while Katy Kurd was the winning lady. All in all a great success and testament to the amount of fun that can be had on a mountain bike, wherever you are! Thank you to everyone who supported and most importantly the riders for putting on an awesome show.
