On a balmy Tuesday evening, we had the pleasure of entertaining over 200 guests at Herne Hill velodrome who joined us and Sir Chris Hoy to celebrate the joy of summer riding.

Four lucky groups of competition winners had the chance to ride with Chris, and he spoke to riders as they circled the track which hosted the Olympics of 1948.

Once the final group of riders, reserved for a very excited gaggle of young people, finished their ride more winners congregated at the velodrome to settle down to an evening film.

The velodrome was converted into an outdoor cinema for the evening, and the audience was treated to the French cycling classic ‘Belleville Rendez-vous’, accompanied by a fully licensed bar.

Munching popcorn, viewers burrowed themselves into traditional deckchairs and squishy bean bags to enjoy an introduction from Sir Chris who took time to answer a few questions about his career.

The film, a slightly dark animation with hilarious moments (reviewed here by Brian of the washingmachinepost.com) tickled the audience and warmed their hearts as a struggling cyclist was saved from the hands of evil.

Once the animation drew to a close, audience members scattered, having enjoyed a unique evening of entertainment that brought together cyclists from all walks of life.
