Eurobike is the biggest cycling trade show in the world. Interbike used to be THE show for a long time but the tide has turned and Eurobike has become the trade show you can’t miss, with over 1,200 exhibitors and 40,000 industry visitors over the course of a week.
The show is held in Friedrichshafen, in Germany, and a sizeable contingent from Evans Cycles visit every year. It is a great opportunity for our buyers to see what ‘our’ brands will have on offer for the next year, what the competition does, and there are always great brands out there that we would like to get involved with.
In days gone by, the whole team would fly out, spend three or four days there and then fly back. Last year, Joel Natale, our Head Buyer had a different idea: why not ride to Eurobike? It’s only 600 miles! Joel managed to get on board a few like-minded, equally hardcore riders from the office, included our CEO, Nick Wilkinson, who had joined the company only weeks beforehand.
The last minute nature of the idea meant that the ride was interspersed with bouts of getting lost, a missed ferry, crappy hotels, etc., but they loved every minute of it.
So this year, six of the team decided to jump on their bikes and do it again. The group includes three newbies and three veterans, who embarked on their journey this morning to arrive on Tuesday at Friedrichshafen.
But this ride is not only about having fun (and feeling a lot of pain). Endura, Castelli, Gore Bike Wear, Louis Garneau and Hincapie have provided the Evans Eurobike team with riding gear which they will be testing and reviewing kit throughout the journey.
Stay tuned for this epic journey and follow their adventures here, on Facebook and on Youtube. We’ll be uploading a short video every day and there will be photos and videos.
And that’s not all! Our CEO, Nick Wilkinson was going to join them again for this year’s ride but an unfortunate, last minute injury has prevented him from doing so. As the above mentioned companies have sent us a full kit for him, too, we decided to give them away! Keep your eyes pealed on Facebook, there will be a competition every day, where you can win Endura, Castelli, Gore Bike Wear, Louis Garenau and Hincapie riding kit each day!
