The first of many cycling programmes for people with intellectual disabilities have begun in Crawley, funded by you – our customers.

We’ve received over 20,000 donations from our customers and this money has gone towards funding The Special Olympics Great Britain Cycling Programme. The first sessions delivered by Special Olympics GB began at the Crawley Wheels for All Centre on Saturday 13th July.

Before now the Wheels for All Centre has concentrated on working with people with physical disabilities using adapted bikes, but they have now bought their first standard 2 wheeled bikes with money donated by Evans Cycles customers.

The aim of the programme will be to help people of all ages with learning disabilities learn to ride on two wheels, and Special Olympics GB aims to have more centres running their sessions later in the year.

Initial sessions will be about teaching the basic skills of riding, and as riders develop they will be encouraged to take part in organised rides.

Those wishing to develop their cycling further will move on to take part in the Special Olympics competition programme which includes regional, national and international competitions.

At Evans Cycles, we’re so proud to be a part of the programme, and we’re excited to see the first riders on their bikes later this month.

How do I donate?

Any customer can donate when shopping with us online via the Pennies electronic donation scheme – the option will appear when you reach the online checkout, but more information is available here.
