We are pleased to announce that we are soon to open a bike shop in Edinburgh! I visited the city to get a feel of the scene and catch up with Ian Maxwell from Spokes, Chris Brace from Edinburgh Council and Mark Mcghee our store manager to-be about cycling, bikes, and tasty cakes!
Edinburgh is a breath-taking city with impressive architecture, winding streets and smashing views. Exploring by bike is the ultimate way to see the city as there is something around every corner. For those seeking heart pumping MTB cycling, and endurance busting Road riding, Edinburgh is a gateway to some of Scotland’s best countryside.
We are really excited about serving Edinburgh’s cycling community from the 2nd April 2012 and it is all go here! Our store project manager, James has been working hard measuring hand-made units, planning & designing a stunning store. Located at 1A, Exchange Place, the store will boast a fantastic selection of Mountain Bikes, (Full and Hard-tail), Road bikes, folding cycles and Hybrids. From beginners to pros’ we will have a bike and accessories that fits the bill. If you are looking to pimp your ride, or a reliable service, we have a fully operational workshop and tools on offer.
I caught up with Ian from Spokes about cycling in Edinburgh. It is clear that there is much work going on to improve cycling facilities around the city and conditions for riders. Ian works to campaign for better cycling conditions within the city. His passion for riding is clear and as more people choose pedal power there is a common interest in providing education, great service and choice.
Chris Brace is pleased to share cycle routes leaflets with us that are pocket sized guides to routes around the city. He agrees that, cycling is a fun and inclusive activity and as more people choose to saddle up knowing bike basics will be really useful, such as how to fix a puncture or clean your bike.
With the Evans Cycles store located so near the Canal path, Chris comments that with it is a great location to stop-off before enjoying a great ride.
Mark currently works at our Braehead branch and is soon to steer the Edinburgh Ship with the help of a cycle-savvy team. As a Scotsman and keen rider (Road, Mountain bike & a few other’ along the way) he knows the scene inside-out. His passion for riding, years of experience and know-how make for a potent combination!
As Mark admits, ‘Edinburgh is a brilliant hub for anyone looking to saddle up’ we aim to give honest informed advice, great service and offer choice’. With over 10,000 bikes available to order to store, 60 bike brands and 12 exclusive brands we hope there is something for everyone!
Join us on the 2nd of April for our launch with exclusive offers in-store!
