In just over one week we’re launching a brand new store in Sheffield. The youngest addition to our fleet of shops across the UK will open on Saturday 9th February, and we’re celebrating with opening offers, some fantastic competitions and the chance for five people to win £100 vouchers.

The store in Queens Road (S23DH) will have 200 bikes on the shop floor and be open from 9am until 7pm, with the opening day celebrations taking place on Saturday 9th from 9am until 6pm. Discount vouchers will be available to download from the store page once it is open.

We caught up with the new store manager, James, to find out more about how he’s preparing to welcome in the population of Sheffield…

“I want to make this store the go-to place for cycling in the city. The store is going to have 200 bikes on the shop floor that people can browse and test ride, and obviously we’ve got even more online, so people can order in if we don’t have the perfect bike on display.

I’ve worked with Evans for about 7 years, starting as a part-time Saturday boy, and then working my way up to assistant manager where I helped out with a few other store openings. I’ve seen the company grow and I know we’ve got a lot to offer people here. We’ve got tons of bikes, for commuters, roadies, mountain bikers alike – and we also stock all the clothing, accessories and components that people might need. We’ve got workshops staffed by fully qualified mechanics… so really we can cater for anything a rider needs.

I’m extremely excited to be opening the new store. We’re going to hold a one-off celebration day, where we’ll be having a fastest puncture mending contest, a turbo training competition and a tyre hula-hoop game. Five people will win sets of £100 vouchers, and we’ll have some extra special high-end bikes on display, as well. Hiplok will be coming along too to show off some of their kit and High5 will be there to supply some samples.

I’ve been riding around the city a fair bit – I have some family here so I know it quite well. It is a fantastic city with some amazing riding. I ride a Scott Genesis off-road and a BMC Team Machine on the road – so I’m looking forward to getting out on them both in this new riding territory. I spent my youth learning to ride mounting bikes in the peak district; I am now really looking forward to exploring the other side of the peak.

We’re going to be advertising the store around the city on bus rears and through some leaflets, using pictures that local mountain bike advocacy group ‘Ride Sheffield’ supplied. We’ve been in touch with them from the early days of planning the store launch, and they’ve been really enthusiastic. Some of their pictures were amazing, too.

It is a while away, but we’re hosing an Evans Cycles RideIt! not far away in Mansfield on 16 and 17 November. We’ll hold an off-road ride and a sportive, and I hope the store can get really involved with that, too.

I’m looking forward to unlocking the door on the very first day, and every day after that.”

As part of the launch, customers can also enjoy discounts of 15% off clothing and accessories, 10% off bikes and servicing from £10 until the end of February. Discount vouchers can be downloaded from the Evans Cycles website here:
