A brand new Evans Cycles store is set to swing open its doors in Cardiff next month.

This will be our first step into Wales, and we’re excited to be entering a city with a growing interest in cycling and some amazing rides on its doorstep.

The new store will open in Dumfries Place (just below the NCP carpark) early in July, and is currently in the process of being given the Evans Cycles stamp as the builders move in. We will be well equipped to cater for all riders, with over 200 bikes on the shop floor, as well as a huge range of clothing, parts and accessories from cycling’s biggest brands.

We’ll have a great range of items in-store, but as with all our shops customers will be able to order in any of the products we’ve got online, and with over 30,000 of them from a huge variety of brands, we’re sure we will be able to fulfil the needs of our new customers.

We know this is an area with a wide audience – and why wouldn’t it be? Probably most notably for its fantastic mountain biking but the city itself also has over 500miles of dedicated cycle paths and its own Cardiff Cycling Campaign, to protect the rights of those who go by bike.

The local terrain serves as a mountain bikers haven with access to the Black Mountains and a network of trail centres such as Cwmcarn and Afan, the riders of Cardiff have got a playground on their doorstep. There is also the ‘Beacons Bus’ which carries cyclists from Cardiff every Sunday from May Bank Holiday until end September to Brecon, running over 50 miles of the Brecon Beacons

We caught up with the stores new manager, Tom Evans, to find out a bit about the guy who will be running the show here.

A fan of mountain biking, road riding, climbing, and (more sedately) reading, he told us his favourite bikes were his Cotic BFe hardtail and Trek Session 8.

He said: “My favourite all time ride was downhill mountain biking in Malaga. It was a blast, but there was no room for error!  Locally I would say White’s Level at Afan is great, and I have recently been to Brechfa and absolutely loved it.”

Tom’s hopes the store will cater  for all types of cyclist; from city commuters on hybrids, thrill seeking mountain bikers on knobbly tyres, roadies, and track cyclists with a velodrome only a stones throw away. The new outlet will be a clean, modern open plan store providing a base for all types of cyclist.
