We were absolutely thrilled to be awarded the title of “Cycling Retail Chain of the Year” by Total Women’s Cycling readers last night.

TWC is now just over a year old, and the magazine has already taken centre spot in women’s cycling, becoming the go-to place for news, reviews and views that are written by and for women who love to ride.

In the past, women have been underrepresented in the sport, but we’re pleased to see that is changing (in fact -for proof of this growth, check out this report from British Cycling about the 23% increase in female license holders) and we’re proud to have been singled out as an organisation supporting this.

The awards, the first of their kind and sponsored by Velo Vixen, were based entirely on public vote, and that means a lot to us.

Readers were asked to select individuals and organisations that have supported the growth of women’s cycling,  and categories were left open.

Each of the 16 category winners went home (or back to the office!) with a framed jersey, designed by Anna Glowinski, who shared the presenting role with commentator Anthony McCrossan.

We picked up our award for being “Cycling Retail Chain of the Year” with great pride, and we are ecstatic that readers chose us:

Over 2013, we hosted two series’ of ‘One for the Girls’ events in our stores. These events have been focused on providing advice specifically for female cyclists, as well as creating a female friendly shopping environment, and helping local female cyclists to meet like-minded riders, perhaps initiating new riding groups.

Everyone gets a few treats, too!

We’re planning an even bigger, even better series of events for 2014, and we’ve also got a few other ideas up our sleeves, too.

Alongside events, we’re working hard to improve our provision for female cyclists, and we’re always keen to hear any feedback or suggestions – so send  us a message in the comments if you have ideas.
