Rupert works at our Contact Centre and he has been reviewing bikes for a while for our blog. This time, however, he passed on the baton to his daughter.
After looking for a good few months for a specific Road Bike for my 11 year old Daughter Marley, I found out that we would be stocking a brand by the name of Moda. There are relatively few ‘like for like’ road bikes available for children on the market that actually look like a mini adult bike but these certainly fit the bill!
Now of the bikes that Marley has had since she had been riding there have only been mountain bikes and although she wanted a bike just like Dads, she told me this was a little bit weird riding it for the first time.
I went through how the shifters work as they were different from her mountain bike and she soon got to grips with it and the size of these are perfect for the smaller hand. I also showed her the various hand positions that you can use with drop bars, which again were ideal for her size. We opted for a small ride around the block for her to get used to it before venturing further afield.
Seat height sorted and we were off. She was a little wobbly to begin with as the tyres were ‘skinny’, but she soon built up confidence to go quicker. Since the first outing we have done a couple of rides and she has practised in the street. The real test will be when she takes her shiny new Moda to the GoTri Training camp this weekend being run by the Mid Sussex Tri Club.
