RIDE INTRO

A new ride location for 2014 which sees us heading to Knutsford for our Cheshire Ride It! Sportive. The event offers a relativley flat course across the Cheshire Plains but for those that fancy a climbing challenge we’ve included an optional detour that will take riders up the cobbled climb of Swiss Hill as featured in Simon Warren’s 100 Greatest cycling Climbs.

We’ll be adding any last minute event news and updates here and on the facebook event page so please come back and check the blog or facebook in the days leading up to the event.

UPDATE #3 – 25/04/14

We had a technical issue with the distribution of the pre event email that was due to be sent yesterday evening. You should now receive it later today.

UPDATE #2  - 22/04/14

We have now reached capacity and the event has sold out, we look forward to seeing you all on the weekend.

UPDATE #1  - 22/04/14

We’re now only 15 spaces away from our 600 rider limit, if you want to ride now is the time to enter as it should sell out shortly and we’ll be unable to accept entries on the day.

TRAVEL

By Car – The venue is easily accessed from either junction 19 of the M6 or junction 8 of the M56. The venue is just outside Tatton Park which is well sign posted from the main roads. The post code for use with sat nav devices is WA16 6SL.

By Train – Knutsford train station is just over a mile away heading through the town to the event centre on Mereheath Lane.

By Bike – Knutsford is surrounded by several busy roads and off the Sustrans cycle network so if you’re planning to arrive by bike then please plan your route carefully. If you’re not local to the area please be aware that the A556 is an extremly busy fast moving road and best avoided.

EVENT CENTRE

The event will be hosted from the Egerton Youth Club, when you arrive please follow the parking signs and directions from our marshalls. Parking will be a combination of the main car park and on the grass areas surrounding the event centre.

Registration is inside the main sports hall and there will be access to changing and shower facilities if you want them before and after your ride.

REGISTRATION

Registration will be open from 8am to 10:30am but long route riders should aim to arrive and register before 9:30am. Please follow the signs for registration after you’ve arrived.

Please ensure you bring your helmet with you to registration, you will not be allowed to register without one so bringing it with you will save a trip back to your car or bike collect it.

Once you have registered and are ready to ride please head to the start area near the main entrance.

CATERING

For this event we are working with Circle Hospitality, who run the on site café, to provide a great choice of food and drink for riders to purchase before and after the ride.

You can get hot and cold drinks from the marquee near our registration desks or the Cafe, which is located just inside the main entrance, will be open from 8am. From the cafe there’ll be a choice of healthy breakfast options or for those that are feeling slightly more indulgent there’s locally sourced sausages, bacon & eggs on a Goostreys bun.

On you return the cafe sells a full range of the usual cafe food and if the weather is good they’ll be a bbq out back with tables and chairs for some post ride alfresco dining.

ride-it-catering

They will be providing a special meal deal for cyclists with a choice of chilli with rice or a chicken and red pesto pasta with a cold or hot drink for £4.

THE RIDES

Fun – 14 miles
Short – 35 miles with 1,000 feet of elevation gain
Medium – 58 miles with 1,900 feet of elevation gain
Long – 82 miles with 2,500 feet of elevation gain

After completing the route please head back through the finish timing point to register your finish time. If you don’t head through the timing point you won’t register a finish time and will show as a DNF when we publish the rider times.

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS NOT A RACE – There are no rankings or prizes on offer, all times will be displayed in a non-sortable format in rider number order. Please help us to continue running popular and friendly events by not riding in such a way to obstruct the road and upset other users. The majority of the ride is on the public roads so please obey the Highway Code, stop at junctions where appropriate and obey any traffic lights. Do not ride at silly speeds around blind bends or on steep descents. Although we have event insurance it does not insure you for your actions so if you do hit a car or pedestrian you will be responsible for any damages caused by your riding.

SWISS HILL CHALLENGE

Our medium and long routes pass by the bottom of the Swiss Hill cobbled climb as featured in Simon Warren’s 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs. After watching Paris-Roubaix we thought it would be an interesting feature if we gave our riders the chance to face their own cobbled challenge albeit on a much smaller scale than Paris-Roubaix.

swiss_hill

This is an optional challenge, if you fancy taking on the cobbles turn right and head up the hill and you’ll rejoin the route a few miles down the road. If cobbles aren’t your cup of just keep riding past whilst bidding cheapeau to those that are heading right.

WEATHER & ROAD CONDITIONS

We’ll be keeping an eye on the weather over the coming days and are hoping for some fine and dry conditions.

The roads around Cheshire seem to be in fairly well surfaced and in good condition but please come prepared with at least one spare tube and the means to repair a puncture. We will have a support van to assist riders with mechanical problems but sometimes it can take a while to reach you so it’s much better if you can sort out basic problems such as punctures on your own.

MAPS & GPX FILES

All riders will be given a hard copy of the route map at registration. Please keep this with you, even if you’re using a GPS, as it has useful information such as emergency contact numbers and the location of the ride splits and feed stations.

You can visit the main event page now and view the routes on Garmin Connect -
