Pics from both days can be found here:-
You can download rider times from Ride It! Epping uisng the links below. Well done to everyone who came and rode in some pretty tough conditions. Saturday saw the mountain bike riders tackle a particularly middy course that seemed to take it’s toll on bikes and rider whilst the road riders on Sunday has some dry conditions to start but overnight rain had washed lots of debris onto the roads and there were plenty of stories of riders suffering 2 or 3 punctures during the day. I managed to ride some of the road course on Sunday afternoon as the course sweeper and it seemed every corner you turned you were heading into another head wind.
Road Sportive Rider Times - we had some issues with our timing system on Sunday but have managed to recover most of the data, apologies if you’re one of the riders that still has missing times.
Excel Rider Times
One of the most common queries we get after the rider times are published is ‘Can I have them in Excel?’ and the short answer is ‘no’.
We know most people just want them for general interest to see how they compare and we can completly understand that. However, for insurance and legal reasons we try hard to ensure that our events are in no way seen as races or as having any competitive element. One way we do this is by only providing results that can’t easily be ranked and it’s for the same reason that we don’t normally provide number boards for bikes or set gold, silver and bronze time targets.
Part of the appeal of the rides for many is seeing how long it takes them to complete the course, we totally get that and that’s why we time you but that’s a personal challenge and not a competition against other riders.
Getting woken up in the night by the rain overflowing from my gutter, I didn’t hold out much hope for a dry ride today. So it was a surprise to end up having put out the short road ride and not got too wet! AS per usual, as it’s been raining, the roads aren’t in their best condition. There is a bit of gravel and some patching on rough surfaces in places, so keep an eye on the road. If you are thinking of bringing your lightweight wheels with paper thin tyres, then make sure you have spare tubes and/or patches ( We really don’t recommend Tubs!!!)
The MTB route is being put out tomorrow, but looking at the trails on the sides of the road as I passed by, I don’t think you are going to be in for a dry, clean ride. It should be fun though, weaving through Epping Forest
We are now going to upload the maps for you to view. This will be the one you get on the morning.
Info for the weekend.
PLEASE BRING YOUR HELMET TO REGISTRATION. You will not be able to register without it.
Quiet! – When leaving the venue on the ride in the morning, please be considerate to the local residents on the immediate estate roads. Getting woken up by 500 riders shouting “Right” is not a great way to start the day.
Parking – please follow the directions of Marshals on the morning. It might be a bit hectic on Sunday….
MTB – We are going to be a bit compact on registration as the school has double booked us. If the weather is fine we’ll have on the day entries outside, if not we’ll squeeze into the hall. Please be patient and we’ll get through you as fast as we can.
You can view a copy of the MTB map here Map ( Sportive coming soon!!)
Sportive – As this has sold out and we have the main hall back, entry should be fairly fast…..
Drink Stations – these are at 17miles ( Everyone except Fun) 35miles ( Medium/Long ) 65miles ( Long ) Long route, the third drink station is the same as the second as you visit twice. After the first time, turn right, after the second time go straight on. This will be marked up.
Urinating – Please DO NOT URINATE at the drink stations. One of them is on an open, pretty green with a lake for the locals to enjoy. We don’t want to upset them by having 500 cyclist expose themselves and leave the place smelling of pee. It’s NOT A RACE, find somewhere discrete on the route and take 30seconds out of the ride.
THIS IS NOT A RACE
These rides are not races. Please follow the highway/countryside code. Give way to other road/trail users and be polite. Roadies, do not ride two abreast where it is not safe to do so and keep your speed down and bike under control into blind corners. MTB riders, there are a lot of HORSE RIDERS in the area. Please slow down and STOP when you meet a horse, follow the instructions of the rider. Remember, you have complete (ish) control of your bike, they won’t have control of a spooked tonne of horse which can injure you/them/the horse. Think of it this way, you pass the horse once, they get passed 400 times. YOU are responsible for your actions and their consequences, if you cause an accident then you are liable for the costs.
These are now up for those that have pre-entered,( please do not mail me if you are not pre-entered, the files will be available to download from our computers on the morning. ) the link will be in the pre-event mail you should have received. If not, please check your junk folder or any other email addresses you might have used when booking. If you still can’t find it, mail me on firstname.lastname@example.org. Bear in mind that I won’t answer mails between 7am – 9pm Saturday.
I’ll be posting up details of the event here over the next few days.
First thing to say is that the Sportive on Sunday is SOLD OUT. Please do not turn up expecting to enter as we do not have room and there is limited space in the car park.
