Dear Rider

We are sorry to inform you we have been forced to cancel this weekend’s mountain bike Ride it! event which was scheduled to be held in Milton Keynes on Saturday the 12th of April, and replace this with a second sportive road ride.

All pre-registered mountain bike riders will receive a full refund which will be processed this week.

Sportive road ride on the Saturday

Our sold out Sunday 13th of April Milton Keynes sportive road ride is unaffected and is taking place as planned.  As we cannot run the mountain bike event on the Saturday we will be putting on an additional sportive road ride in place of the mountain bike ride, and therefore running two sportive events this weekend.

Entries for the Saturday sportive will be available on our website from tomorrow, Tuesday 8th of April.  We hope you can take part in our sportive event.  Please note we cannot transfer your mountain bike entry to a road entry, riders must purchase a new entry.

Why we have cancelled this event

We have taken the decision to cancel this event based on the Countryside Access department of the Central Bedfordshire Council refusing to provide consent to use the bridleway network for this event.  Late last week we were advised of the councils position and their view that holding such an event would require the bridleways to be closed to other users, meeting this and other conditions is simply not possible before the weekend.

In addition to the council’s decision we have received opposition by Bedford Estates, an organisation responsible for parts of the Woburn area and other local land that a significant number of bridleways of our planned route takes in as ‘in this occasion we didn’t think it [the event] fitted into how we would like to promote the woods’.

We have been in discussion with the land owners and various local authorities and local safety groups in the planning for this event for some time and we are disappointed to learn of Central Bedfordshire Councils position only last week.  We remain in contact with them to secure access to the area for our events in the future.

Evans Cycles have run this event safely for the past 5 years on the same route without incident, we are proud to have introduced the area and the great riding it has to offer to hundreds of mountain bikers over this time.  We work with many local authorities and countryside access and rights of way teams and this is the first occasion we have not had consent or had consent withdrawn to utilise the bridleway network.

Private individuals cycling in the area

The area around Woburn and Bow Brickhill has some fantastic riding and we would like to encourage all cyclists to experience this area for themselves in their own time.  You are welcome to use our GPX route files ( Long Route which is the only one we have produced that is entirely on Public Bridleways ) as a guide for your own mountain bike adventure in this area.  Of course as with all off-road cycling please plan your ride and ride safely, showing respect for other trail users.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this cancellation, we hope you can switch to a road bike and still join us on Saturday, or join us at another ride soon.

Kind regards

Dean Stacey, Ride It! Event Manager
