We’ve been out today putting up this weekends Sportive course, and it’s been sunny!! The course starts from the small village of Watlington and heads towards the M40 before turning of and looping around to the first real hill at Britwell. I always remember taking photography at school and one of the things I remember being taught is that “distance fore-shortens” which basically means that from a distance the top of the hill looks nearer than it is. What this means to us is that when you are approaching a hill it will look vertical when it’s actually a pleasant, easy gradient. Keep telling yourselves this up Britwell!! This is the only serious climb on the ride ( note. it’s not the ONLY hill!!) so please don’t think this is the format for the rest of the ride, which is through some scenic back lanes in the Chilterns.
The roads are in Ok condition, The long loop had very little debris and flat roads, but there are some sections where tractors have put mud on the road. My recommendation is to keep your winter tyres on for this ride.
All routes finish down Watlington Hill which is a real blast, just watch your speed at the end!!
This will be going out tomorrow but, thanks to a bit of insider information I know the state of the route. Basically there are some trails that are OK and some that are muddy – England in Winter
We do start you off up Watlington Hill on the road, just to get you up and over when you have energy, but after that there aren’t too many more big hills……
MTB GPX routes are provisional until tomorrow evening.
After the main carparks are full we will be parking on the field out the back, please drive carefully as it’s wet. If you are on the field there is an exit at the other end of the school which is down hill, please use this.
See you at the weekend.
